FREE WHEELIN' POTTERS

Sunken Studio's Story

Rebecca owns and runs Sunken Studio, an independent pottery studio where she makes gorgeous handmade ceramics and offers pottery classes to creative and curious members of the public. We caught up with her to get her take on the best that the south of Leeds has to offer.

Rebecca, originally from Manchester, moved to Leeds over 18 years ago and has never looked back. A ceramicist by trade, Rebecca set up Sunken Studio three years ago and has been helping the people of Leeds to unleash their creative side ever since.

Between creating gorgeous handmade pottery and running her very popular workshops, Rebecca is a busy bee but she stopped to give us the low down on the best bits of the South Bank.

You can walk down by Thwaites Mill and the walk down the canal is really great.

Is there anything special or unique about this neighbourhood in your eyes?

“There’s a lot of people living here and I think there’s a thirst from those people to have things to do that give it a bit of a place that’s about the domestic realm as opposed to the industrial realm. And people are taking risks here. They’re all the beginning of something which makes them special, they’re taking risks but they can also see the potential.”

And what’s made you interested in living and working here?

“There’s an energy to this place, a buoyancy to it. It’s nice to be part of that and there’s a lot of creative people here too.”

Feeling creative? Check out Sunken Studio next time you’re in the South Bank!
